A Safe Backpack |
|
| Not all backpacks are safe for kids,
and since they really make a difference to kids’ healthy backs, parents
are advised to read about a particular pack before buying it and weight
its advantages and disadvantages. In addition, some types of backpacks
may not be allowed at schools and that is another reason why this issue
should not be ignored. Before buying a backpack, first, talk to your child and determine how and when he or she uses his or her bag at school in general. If the child has no choice but to carry all his books and supplies with him in a backpack all day, then think of purchasing a rolling pack or try to reduce the regular pack’s weight to minimum. Doctors recommend that school bags with books and supplies should not be heavier than fifteen percent of kids’ overall body weight. A good bag by itself should be light to aid its carrier in bearing or pulling it during the day. In addition, for regular backpacks parents are recommended to buy a bag with a back padding and wide padded shoulder straps as they help the kid to carry the weight throughout the day. The waist belt is a good feature to have on regular backpacks as it helps to distribute the weight evenly through the body. As far as rolling backpacks, they should be made with durable and smooth wheels to ease of towing and a sturdy handle for carrying. Talk to your child about the correct ways of wearing or towing the school bag as children usually do not pay attention to such things. Specialists recommend that children wore their school packs using both shoulder straps and a waist belt for balance of weight. In addition, stuffing school things in bag’s multiple compartments can help to balance the bag’s weigh as well. Children should roll their backpacks around the school with care as it is a very common tripping hazard. Some consider rolling backpacks to be safe for kids at school, as children can roll these bags once in a while instead of carrying them all day on their backs. |
